Celebrating the women of Darwin Gray

March 4, 2025

International Women’s Day serves as a great opportunity to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality and to acknowledge the contributions of women across all industries, including the legal profession.

With 28 women currently employed at Darwin Gray across all levels and departments (making up over 60% of the team), diversity and equality are central to the firm’s success. We’re proud to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the incredible women in our firm, both in their legal work and their contributions in the wider community.

Darwin Gray’s Managing Partner, Fflur Jones said: “We’re proud to foster an inclusive, supportive and nurturing environment for all individuals. It’s a key part of our culture and is monumental in shaping the way we work and the success we achieve as a cohort.”

Fflur herself has been instrumental in driving the growth of the firm since taking on the leadership role in 2021. Fflur joined Darwin Gray as a solicitor in 2003 and has built an impressive career as a highly respected employment law specialist. Fflur has also been a passionate advocate for ensuring workplace equality, and ensuring all individuals at Darwin Gray are given the opportunity to develop and prosper.

Over and above her commitment to Darwin Gray, Fflur also plays an active role on various Boards and committees. As Chair of Mentera and a Board Member at Aloud, her leadership and legal skills are put to good use. Fflur also regularly contributes to national radio and TV programmes on employment law and equality and diversity matters.

On 4th March, Fflur took part in a prestigious panel event at WCVA’s International Women’s Day event at Swansea Building Society Arena. The event included crucial discussions on the barriers that women face in the workplace. Fflur shared her expert knowledge on best practice for fostering and ensuring equality in this environment.

Catherine Burke, Partner and Head of Darwin Gray’s Property team also plays a vital role in the firm’s success. Under her leadership, the property team have experienced tremendous growth in recent years. The team has also earned prestigious accolades, including at the Wales Legal Awards 2023 and winning the Legal Firm of the Year award at the Cardiff Property Awards 2024.

Several of Darwin Gray’s other female professionals also actively contribute and play a role on the boards and committees of external organisations and charities. Elin Davies, Fiona Hughes, Heledd Ainsworth, Heledd Evans, Rachel Ford-Evans and Siobhan Williams are all active board members of other organisations. The organisations they serve include Taflais Choir, Cwlwm Busnes Caerdydd, Ty Cerdd, Llamau, The Wallich, and the Wales’ Junior Lawyers Division. Their work to support these initiatives aligns with Darwin Gray’s overall commitment to promote inclusivity and to serve the community in which the firm operates.

A number of our team have Trustee Profiles which you can read in full on their individual web profiles under “Memberships”. Our profiles can be found here.
